How to Change Song Lyrics with the Original Voice Using AI

Ever wondered how you can change the lyrics of your favorite song while keeping the original voice?

This post will guide you step-by-step on how to use AI to seamlessly change song lyrics while keeping the original artist's voice intact.

Not a fan of reading? See this quick video:

Imagine Taylor Swift's iconic Shake It Off but with lyrics like, "Truckers gonna truck truck truck" instead of "players gonna play play play." This is exactly what we did for a company called NTI Limited, and you can read the full story of how we helped them create the perfect parody song here.

Step 1: Write Your Custom Lyrics

The first step is to create your own custom lyrics that match the original song's rhythm and flow. One of my favorite tools to do this is Diffchecker. It lets you paste the original lyrics in one column and write your new lyrics in the other, making it easier to match syllables and maintain the song's flow. It’s like seeing the whole puzzle and figuring out where each piece fits.

If you need a little creative assistance, AI can help here too! I recommend using ChatGPT to generate ideas with this curated prompt:

Prompt: Please rewrite the lyrics below to create a new song. The new lyrics must keep the same rhyme scheme and number of syllables as the original. I'll be counting syllables for each line, so make sure they match. Incorporate the following themes and emotions: [insert your themes here]. Here are the original lyrics: [insert lyrics here].

This way, you’ll have the creative boost you need while ensuring your new lyrics fit perfectly into the song.

Step 2: Record the Custom Lyrics

Next, you’ll need to sing the new lyrics in the rhythm of the original song. If you’re confident with your voice, you can use a free DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) like GarageBand for Mac or Audacity for Windows. Both are simple to use and perfect for getting started.

But if singing isn’t your forte, don’t worry! You can hire a professional singer on sites like Fiverr or Upwork to record the lyrics for you. They'll provide you with vocal stems in MP3 or WAV format, which we’ll use in the next step. And remember, you can always contact us at AI Music Service for professional singers if needed!

Step 3: Convert the Audio with AI Voice Cloning

Now comes the magic: converting the vocals to match the original artist’s voice. You can use voice cloning sites like Jammable or Weights.gg. Simply upload the recorded vocal files and select the voice model you want.

Weights.gg is my top recommendation because it’s free and has a larger selection of voice models. However, if you can’t find the AI voice model you need, that’s where we at AI Music Service come in. We can create custom AI voice models for any singer, ensuring the perfect match for your song.

Step 4: Prepare the Song Files for Mixing

At this point, you’ll need to separate the song’s instrumental track from the original vocal. This will allow you to replace the original lyrics with your newly converted AI vocals. Using your DAW, you’ll work with three key files:

  • Instrumental track – the music without vocals.
  • Original vocal track – the part of the song where the original artist sings.
  • Converted AI voice file – the AI-generated vocals with your custom lyrics.

Pro tip: While GarageBand and Audacity are free, if you're looking for premium options, I highly recommend Logic Pro for Mac or Ableton for Windows. They provide powerful editing features, though they do come at a higher price point.

Step 5: Seamlessly Mix the Track

The final step is to mix the song. If you’re familiar with audio mixing, you'll cut the original vocal at the desired spots and insert the AI voice file where you want the lyric change. Make sure the AI vocals match the original sound by applying the right effects and plugins.

If this feels overwhelming, no worries! I offer an in-depth course at the AI Music Academy, where you can learn the art of seamlessly changing song lyrics with AI. Whether you're an audio engineer or just curious, you can explore it here.

What If I’m Not a Pro Mixer?

Not a problem! Many YouTube channels offer free tutorials on how to mix audio tracks. Some of my favorites include:

Why It’s Worth the Effort

You might be thinking, "Isn’t there an app that can do this for me?" The short answer is no. Changing song lyrics while preserving the original voice requires real human touch and professional skills. There are no quick solutions or apps that can deliver the same level of quality.

At AI Music Service, we’ve perfected this process since June 2023, when a client asked us to change lyrics from a Lady Gaga song for their wedding. You can read the full story here.

Our expert audio engineers, vocalists, and AI technology make this process possible at the highest level of quality. We’ve worked with everyone from corporate clients to couples planning their weddings, and we’re excited to help you bring your vision to life too!
